Blood

Stain Type: Red Wine, Blood, Milk, Egg, Fruit Juice and other Protein Stains

TOOLS REQUIRED: Hot water extraction machine.
CHEMICALS REQUIRED: Pro Zyme or Dirt Chaser , Stain Magic, and  Stain Blotter or OSR

Procedure:

IMPORTANT: Do not use high temperature cleaning or heat activated stain removal procedures on these types of stains.

  1. Mix Pro Zyme or Dirt Chaser according to directions on bottle.
  2. Apply solution to stained fibers to thoroughly wet fibers.
  3. Gently but thoroughly agitate fibers to break up and emulsify deposit. Dwell time will help the biochemistry work for you here.
  4. Thoroughly rinse via water extraction leaving carpet as dry as possible (do not use an acid rinsing agent here).
  5. If visible staining remains treat affected area with Stain Magic.
  6. If wicking is an issue, re-clean area and pack with Stain Blotter or use alternative method outlined below.
  7. Once carpet dries completely vacuum thoroughly.

SUGGESTIONS AND CAUTIONS:

Remember that blood is a biohazard.  Protect yourself accordingly and treat it according to EPA guidelines.

Also you may experience “wicking” of blood on heavier deposits.  If deposit is heavy enough to have soaked through backing and into pad, replace the contaminated pad and clean carpet backing as outlined in Steps 1 through 5 above.

“Wicking” can be corrected by using an absorbent powder such as Stain Blotter. Simply cover spot liberally with Stain Blotter following your stain removal process. The wicking contaminant will go into the Stain Blotter and can then be vacuumed away when dry.

ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT FOR WINE AND BLOOD STAINS (for synthetic carpet fibers only):

  1. Mix 1 cup OSR powder to one gallon very hot water (caution, product may produce foam this is completely normal).
  2. Saturate area thoroughly with OSR solution.
  3. Allow 30 minutes dwell time.
  4. Remove excess solution using subsurface extraction device (or even the hose cuff after disconnecting it from the wand for smaller areas)
  5. Any residual staining that has not disappeared should fade as the carpet dries.
